Community Service Initiatives
Imperial Beach Fire-Rescue Department prides itself on giving back to the local community through these initiatives and programs each year:
Annual Open House Event
Each October, the Department opens its doors to the Imperial Beach community through our Open House signature event. We welcome the entire community onsite to learn about fire prevention and safety, experience live rescue demonstrations, have fun in our kids zone, and get resources in the community fair.
This event is typically held on the second Saturday of each October, welcoming nearly 2000 or more residents each year.
School Outreach - Fire Safety and Prevention Education
Our school outreach program is held each year in conjunction with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and Fire Prevention Week.
The program serves all second grade classrooms at Imperial Beach public schools reaching nearly 300 students each year. Firefighters teach fire safety, prevention, and emergency education tips such as:
- Stop, Drop, and Roll
- How to call 9-1-1
- How to Plan an Escape
Following the program, students participate in a poster contest that highlights fire safety and prevention. One winner from each school is chosen and receives a special ice cream party for their class hosted by the firefighters.
Station Tours
Throughout the year, the Department also welcomes groups to do station tours onsite at the fire-rescue station. We adjust each tour based on needs and interests.
To schedule a station tour please call 619-423-8223 or email publicsafety@imperialbeachca.gov
Fill the Boot Program to support the Burn Institute
Imperial Beach Firefighters raise money annually to support the Burn Institute's "Fill the Boot" program.

Burn Institute Demolition Derby at the San Diego County Fair
The Demolition Derby serves as a large-scale event and fundraiser for the Burn Institute. Each year our firefighters participate by outfitting an old car and participating in the exciting derby events.
